Warriors Orochi ( Musou Orochi; lit. 'Unmatched Orochi' in Japan) is a video game series made by, crossing over their historical Warriors series ( and ), with the addition of several original mystical characters sourced primarily from the and and folktales here and there. In contrast to other Warriors games, Warriors Orochi features a tag team system, which allows the player to take three characters and have them fight as a single unit on the battlefield. The characters are divided into three different types: Power, Speed, and Technique, which dictate their fighting styles. Warriors Orochi 3 had a fourth type, Wonder, but it did not return in future installments. The story is about a powerful demonic with a named, the Serpent King AKA Demon King in Japanese (instead of a eight-headed snake monster), committing some sort of sin, thus he is sentenced to eternal damnation. Meanwhile, the fox demoness from the epic novel, Da Ji, somehow sympathized with him. Acknowledging the chaos that he could bring to the world, she sets him free.
United together and true to his nature, Orochi starts seeking out. Merge the eras of the and together and go challenge their warriors. One by one, they begin to fall to Orochi's might. Unfortunately, his actions made the gods aware of his activities and they came to put a stop to them, but Orochi gathered some of the officers that he defeated to serve him. However, the other warriors did not sit idly by under oppression. They banded together and eventually kicked Orochi's scaly ass right back to hell. However, in the second game, known as Warriors Orochi 2 (or Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin, lit. Unmatched Orochi: Demon King Rebirth in Japan), Da Ji escaped and summoned another relic from the past: Kiyomori Taira from the Kamakura era, whom she converted into a follower of Orochi.
Warriors Orochi (Musou Orochi) Series Warriors Orochi 4 (Musou Orochi 3) Warriors Orochi 4 (Musou Orochi 3) V2 1837 posts Page 50 of 184. But could it be possible that the seventh character would just be an alternate side of Gaia as Tamamo No Mae is for Kyuubi? And I like how Hades really does seem to be a relative (albeit much paler.
Kiyomori went back to the ancient lands and freed from Buddha's imprisonment, thereby gaining his services. At the same time, Da Ji convinced the mystical queen of Japan, Himiko, to. Together, they set their sights on reviving Orochi. The gods (mostly Chinese), however, decided to take more active stances, and thus the mystic Taigong Wang (who happens to be Da Ji's nemesis from the epic), as well as the gods Fu Xi and Nuwa (who have undergone a serious case of redesign since 3) split up and aid the mortal warriors from the Three Kingdoms and Sengoku period. Other than them, another figure, Kiyomori's legendary rival Yoshitsune Minamoto, also arrives in the twisted era to hunt down his worst enemy.
Kunoichi: Look out, boys! Here comes a real foxy lady, Orochi's right-hand gal, Da Ji! She's cruel, she's crafty, and she left the house this morning without any pants!.: Orochi stops becoming a major character from 3 onward. In 3, the main antagonist takes his form, but is explicitly recognized as a different thing.
In 4, the real Orochi appears in two separate battles, but the plot revolves around the newly introduced Greek and Norse pantheons. In fact, for being the title character, the series tends to lock him out from the players until the very end of the game. 2 is the only title where he is a default character.:. Hundun is basically of Hammerjaw, a Dodomeki-like Orochi general who aligned himself with Yuan Shao. In Ultimate's Gauntlet Mode, however, he becomes a terrifying demon possibly being a than Orochi. Arguably Ma Chao and Hanbei Takenaka in the third game, where they and Sima Zhao are the starting protagonists.
Sima Zhao is kind of exempt from this for being a leader figure and the main character of the Jin story in Dynasty Warriors 7, but the former two were just a general and strategist in their games. Fu Xi and Nuwa were originally in Dynasty Warriors 3, where they had very basic designs and dialogue. Here: they are with large plot reverence. In the fourth game, Naotora Ii and Guan Yinping join in the characters (Zhao Yun, Yukimura, Cao Pi, Mitsunari and Nobunaga), who were previously leaders of their factions fighting against Orochi in the first game, as the main protagonists who have Deification forms. It should be noted that Naotora is a retainer of the Imagawa and Tokugawa clans and one of few female daimyo in the Sengoku Period while Guan Yinping is known as the daughter of Guan Yu which is ironic that she gets a Deification form over her father who is deified in.: Many moves can become this, but the most notable example are, surprisingly himself. Almost all of his moves are non-elemental, deals small damage, has awkward coverage, and is unsafe in general. The only thing that saves makes him the character that he is intended to be are his C1-1.
/: Names for several Demon and Mystic officers in 3: Ultimate ignore their respective theme naming and instead opt to use 'as long as it sounds cool/menacing' names, such as, Storm, Brimstones, Ocean, Thunder, Victory, etc. There are several quotes that are quite notable.
In one dream stage, Shibata Katsuie calls out to the Orochi forces with 'Pathetic gutter trash. You couldn't outfight my corpse!' . The final battle in the Shu story of 2 has one from Sima Yi when you finally get to him. If you get to him as Zhuge Liang, though.
Sima Yi: You will break before my genius!Zhuge Liang: I will break before no man, the least of which, you. Lu Bu, true to form, says at least one in almost every stage in which he makes an appearance.: While true for most families in game, the Sun family gets a special mention. Three of the four endings have Orochi defeated by the team work of multiple Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors faction members, while the Wu ending is notable for having Sun Jian, Sun Ce, Sun Shang Xiang and Sun Quan defeating Orochi as a family without any other assistance.: All the openings of three games and its expansion except the fourth one can be misleading but is in effect:. The first game's opening shows Lu Bu and Tadakatsu, dueling and clashing their spears which never happens in the game itself. Ina: Yes, I am Ina.
But so is the prisoner!. A more significant case was with Wei's Battle of Komaki-Nagakute in Warriors Orochi 2.
Under normal gameplay conditions, you're not supposed to reach Orochi as the gates leading to him are locked, and Kiyomori teleports his lord away before you have a chance to fight him. With cheats, however, you can walk past the wall to fight Orochi, here, you actually run into dialogue exclusive to running into him there, and defeating him will still end the stage normally.: A major part of Bonds in the third game, where you can invite anyone to a pleasant banquet (from the Tea House, no less!), even if the other party is the responsible for creating the world the characters currently reside in or his. Amusingly enough, you can do this on a more literal level by inviting them to a 'Tea Party', which is the initial way to rise affinity in the game.: Yukimura gives one to Yuan Shao for thinking his enemies are ghosts.: A lot and occasionally overlaps:. First game: In Wu's last stage, Sun Shangxiang can grab a and charge in to Dong Zhuo's base, resulting her getting kidnapped and tied up until you beat him. Second game: That Dream Mode which involves several girls saving other girls ( ) from Dong Zhuo. Third game: Dong Zhuo once again kidnaps girls, this time Oichi, Nene and Xingcai, (.
Ina is also kidnapped by the Demon Army in the middle of her training when you try to unlock her. Third game's DLC has two scenarios where Dong Zhuo attempts kidnapping ladies of the game for his paradise of beautiful women: First, Dong Zhuo's Ambition where he kidnaps Aya, Kai, Joan of Arc, Cai Wenji, Wang Yuanji, Kaguya and Ayane.
And eventually thwarted by a team of Magoichi, Hayabusa and Taigong Wang. Second, Zhong Hui's Pride, which is the same but Dong Zhuo had Zhong Hui to do the dirty job of kidnapping Nuwa, Ina, Da Ji (even if they're allies or sorts), Wang Yuanji (again), Diaochan, Zhurong and Gracia (the last two escaped), until Zhong Hui and storms off, driving off would-be rescuers, Dong Zhuo, as well as the ones Zhurong and Gracia called for help (Meng Huo, Mitsuhide, Motochika). There's also another scenario where you play as Dong Zhuo's forces fighting the resistance forces. And showing that you've captured Sun Shangxiang, Zhenji and Ina to immobilize Sun Jian, Cao Pi and Tadakatsu. Just be careful of Hanzō and Zhou Tai trying to rescue them.:.
In the first game, Liu Bei and Sun Jian are captured by Orochi which forces Zhuge Liang and the Sun siblings to fight for him in exchange of their freedom. In the Wu chapter, Sun Ce with the help of Hanzo are able to rescue to his father and brother from execution while in the Shu chapter, Zhao Yun with the combined effort of Zhuge Liang and their allies defeat Orochi and save Liu Bei. In the dream stage from the second game, Dong Zhuo seems to capture Cao Pi with the other female officers, possibly to lure Zhenji out of the open. After saving him, Cao Pi muses that he's never going to live down with this. In another dream stage, Daqiao, Sun Shangxiang and Oichi have to save their husbands from Da Ji's forces. They also help Zhurong protect her husband, Meng Huo and in return, they help out in the rescue. In the fourth game, Athena takes Liu Shan hostage, forcing Zhao Yun and younger Shu officers (excluding Guan Ping and Yinping) to fight for her.

After Bao Sanniang and the ninjas (minus Nene who is on the Olympians' side) save Liu Shan, Zhao Yun and the rest of the officers immediately side with the coalition. Also in the fourth game, Hideyoshi nearly suffers this knowing what had happened to Liu Shan which is also his reason for accepting Ares' deal on 'King of Men'.
.: Naotora's deification cutscene shows her charging at a deified Lu Bu and before delivering him her kick which she missed, her bracelet activates. When she gets back on her feet, she notices her outfit and feels embarrassed about it. Lu Bu's reaction to this: 'This is interesting!' Of course, it could either be interpreted as his amazement on Naotora's resolve to fight him or. Orochi X/Shin Orochi in Warriors Orochi 3 is less than satisfactory, considering the build-up throughout the game, including having players climb a huge spiraling staircase to get to the boss. Upon fighting it, the character's by itself without any reinforcements, and a few well-placed ' can end this quickly., ths boss is a - has devastating attacks, yet can't take much of a beating. In 3: Ultimate, the Kyubi-no-Kitsune, see.
Though, character-wise, it's justified that unlike Orochi, she's not a and is a rather cowardly manipulator who relies more on deceptions than raw powers. Not to mention that story-wise, unlike Orochi who always fights without ever getting weaker or holding back, she has an. Spoiler She's getting weaker as her tails are being destroyed. When they're all destroyed at the end, she's at her weakest.:.
The for 3 was very poorly received as it consisted of the fighters being returned to their respective eras/worlds as the dimension Orochi made collapses. The problem is everybody involved of the series, meaning everything might as well have never happened, thus they resume their historical roles, going to war against the other factions in their respective franchise. When one considers the storyline of 3 was meant to bring humanity together, putting aside ambitions, grudges, selfishness, etc., to work for the greater good. This left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. 3: Ultimate extended Story Mode by the of 3 and continues it via the good ending, instead.
Furthemore, the actual ending of Ultimate ensures nobody loses their memories; while characters from different franchises still part ways forever, characters from the same franchise aren't likely to kill one another or otherwise come into conflict with, a stark contrast from the of 3. And while 4 follows up the events of Ultimate, the characters still lose their memories just like in the vanilla True ending while the Mystic characters retained theirs. The announcement of 4 also has a clear message that the series will be back using the traditional Musou stage format and moveset style. Those who has been disillusioned with the change in moveset style and the venture to open world in 9 were regaining their faith in Koei. The 'Enemy officer defeated' quotes had been a frequent hassle for players because it keeps clogging the general message feed and in non-English dub games, it causes players to miss several mission objectives.
It takes Warriors Orochi 4 to finally remove them and the quotes can be only heard in the field. The 1.05 patch for 4 gave a majority of the Chinese-based figures (particularly anyone with EX Attacks) extra elemental activation charge attacks, putting them all in proper line with the Samurai Warriors figures that can spam Hyper Attacks all-day. Many fans were dismayed about the guest characters being cut out from the fourth game. The expansion seems to bring back three of them starting with Joan of Arc, Ryu Hayabusa and especially, Achilles. A lot of players are dissatisfied with the ending of 4 due to being singular and very similar to True Ending from 3 note The humans went back to their time periods with their memories of the Orochi world erased again.
Just like the third game, the expansion receives two new endings. Players hated the new user interface in the fourth game due to how cluttered and difficult it is to sort out and find certain characters. Fortunately, the expansion brings back the original WO3 user interface where all the characters are sorted by faction ( Dynasty Warriors characters) and game debut ( Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi characters).: Taigong Wang, who, while frequently boasts about him being great and magnificent, is indeed an incredibly powerful individual , comes up with numerous strategies for his allies that usually succeed (depending on the player's in-battle performance). It helps in that he has a line that shows his actual stance towards evil in general in the second game, and his view of humanity is summed up thusly. Taigong Wang: You hope to become omnipotent?
That is a pretty far goal to reach. Even then, it also ties into genuinely expressing surprise at something that beats his plans,.:. Considering that this is a crossover between Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, expect a combination of rock and techno with Chinese and Japanese musical instruments., and are some of the best examples out there. With its tempo increased. The music played in the character and stage selection menu, really keeps you pumping as you prepare your characters for battle. The third game's Ultimate expansion for Gauntlet/Unlimited Mode has a different version for the stage select called 'Optic Line II', while fourth game brings it back as., which is played in the gallery and options menu, gives you peaceful melody.
Its successor, is very calm and soothing as well. is indeed a cool song and this is even played in one cutscene in WO2 where Nobunaga jumps over Fu Xi in his white horse. and are played in the final battle of WO1 and WO2 where you pulverized all of Orochi's force before you face the man himself. from the fourth game is fusion of rock and techno with an orchestral build. The sounds of violin and trumpets really give a sense of triumph. from the Japan-only Z game, which is included in the PSP version of WO2, is always played when you finally face him.
The third game while officially bringing the said theme to the West for the first time (unless one played the PSP version of the second game), also brings in when you face him again in the last battle.:. Himiko. Some people love her personality, while some wish she was more akin to her Kessen II portrayal. This mainly due to her very deadly Musou Attack as a CPU and her possibly irritating and questionable devotion to Da Ji leading to the fact that she's technically part of the 'bad guy's team'; which leads to possible awkward reception towards her when she has more 'peaceful' scenarios with the resistance army in Warriors Orochi 3 (as some people may not ). A select amount of those who have hatred towards Da Ji would not enjoy Himiko any one bit because of this. Even moreso, there's always contrivances that made Himiko hostile to your party, and yet be a fangirl to Da Ji; as shown in 4. Unlike Masamune and Keiji who ended up vindicated due to Orochi being revealed to be more of an and it's directly Orochi that they trusted, not Da Ji; Himiko is dedicated more on Da Ji than Orochi, and Da Ji is more blatantly evil, so Himiko's fangirling over Da Ji ends up making her look like an irritating to her detractors.
For her supporters, though, her innocence is seen as something nice or actually humanizing the otherwise evil Da Ji. Sun Wukong. It would be no secret in that due to him evolving into a hero in his, he ends up serving the villains, mainly Kiyomori out of a debt due to the evil sorcerer freeing him. He was going as far as making sure Kiyomori revived Orochi (in his debut) as well as brainwashing people (in 3). Needless to say, while some would find it interesting that the overpowered Monkey King of legend is on the villains' side, a few people would no doubt call him a completely ungrateful bastard due to his motivations; his casual reaction to Xingcai and Ina calling out on him in the second game at Wuhong Mountains didn't help matters either. Adding in to is due to Wukong's Gold Pupil Fire Eyes, his iconic golden eyes with gave him the ability to see evil in all forms (and gave him a weakness to smoke); because of this, it would be rather foolish and enraging towards those who studied the original novel in that why Wukong can't clearly see who he's serving is evil especially.: Samurai Warriors characters (or characters of Japanese origin using the same moveset system) are this when you fight them, since their Musou Attack fires instantly and stuns you when activated, leaving you helpless against the ensuing attacks. Himiko deserves a special mention since her Musou does ridiculous amount of damage and can easily kill you thanks to using this mechanic.
The only way to deal with them with this in mind is to force them airborne with such attacks as much as possible, or have something on hand that can one-shot them.: Apart from his attire and a few throw-away lines suggesting it in the first game, Orochi has never explicitly shown any signs of being evil. Even the average mook in his army has probably committed more unholy deeds than the Serpent King himself.
Then the second game outrightly retconned him into a who only wishes to escape The third game plays with this. The world-destroying Hydra is essentially Orochi's power unchained, but at the same time you get to recruit the personification of Orochi's consciousness into your party.:. The showdown with Kyubi.
Set in the unimpressive Odawara Castle stage, you start out with a small force to fight the enemy, who's got even fewer troops of their own. Then the battle proceeds in an uninteresting fashion with Kyubi sending out croonies one after another, who at this stage of the game would barely pose any threat to the player. Then halfway through the battle, she starts fleeing, and gets chased all over the map while throwing out weak cronies at you again, until she finally gets soundly defeated by the humans, with no remarkable resistance given whatsoever. Not very exciting for a final level, is it?.
The final battle with Odin takes place on a Greek architecture map which actually the same map used to defeat the Olympians at the end of chapter four. What makes matters worse is that it's also the exact same map as the penultimate mission where you defeat both Orochi X and the original Orochi. While the final battle map tries to improvise by adding the Yggdrasil tree which is Odin's place, it's very strange that the map has been used three times prior to this. When you finally confront Odin, you can easily prevent him from attacking by spamming your Sacred Treasure magic on him. Later, a mind-controlled Loki appears but you can ignore him because defeating him is just a bonus battle objective unless you're in the chaotic level trying to get unique weapons.: A lot of fans on Twitter love Odin because of his attractiveness and edgy persona. There are even those fans who sympathize with his cause because he just wants to live.:.
Mizuchi/Diamondback, due to the ridiculously profuse amount of screen-time he gets in the third game, despite being a generic officer who never became playable (unlike fellow 'generics' Gyuuki and Dodomeki). His attitude certainly helps too. Out from the newcomers in 4, Athena garnered so much attention because of her cool moveset, powerful attacks and appearance most especially when she removes her mask late in the story, revealing her beautiful face. Many players prefer her to be unmasked not only because she's pretty but it also symbolizes her after realizing her shortcomings and her limited perspective on humanity.: Some players can't help but find Da Ji, Tamano and Kyubi to be very appealing and sexy.: Wolves in the 3rd game, mainly Gauntlet/Unlimited Mode. They cannot be flinched or sent flying by your attacks, unlike enemies such as tigers from Dynasty Warriors 8 which, while still difficult to deal with, would at least respond to your attacks.
They also come with a bite attack that acts as a grab/throw that mauls your face in with repeated damage ticks, making them a serious problem if you can't manage to take them out fast. In Gauntlet Mode, they are constantly leveling up from the Miasma, meaning that it's less likely for you to kill them quickly, and once they get powerful enough, you would be running the risk of having a pack of them hunting you down all over the map, and if you get locked into their grab, you're almost assured to die. Sorcerers, being absent from the Dynasty games for so long, now return in Gauntlet Mode, and become more of a pest than ever. Elemental damage aside, their projectiles are now fast and deadly accurate, capable of knocking you over, and some even slows your movement. At a low Miasma level they are simply an annoyance, but under higher levels getting hit by volleys of spells is almost assured death. Charm Sorcerers are even more so since their blasts severely slow down your character, leaving them a sitting duck if you don't have a formation with Hi-Speed.:. In the first game, defeating a playable officer with Xu Huang's Jump Charge locks him in the same animation, making him until he gets hit.
Merging this with can cause him to fly like one. Thus, in the Japanese community, his of 'Jocopter/Xucopter' was born. In Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, a programming oversight in the Survival challenge of Duel Mode made your growth points winnings accumulate after defeat (if you lose and gain 40,000 points, the next time would be 40,000 plus whatever you earned the next time, and so on), as long as you selected rematch right after losing. This means you can quickly get to a point of earning 200,000 growth points PER RUN, and can max out two or three characters in about five, 30-win runs of survival Duel Mode easily.:. Let's just say that 2018 is the year Loki died.
However, this version of Loki succeeded in helping the heroes defeat the at the cost of his life while MCU!Loki died trying to stop Thanos but failed which if you've seen. The side mission, 'No One Wins a Quarrel', has Nene, Lu Meng and Zhang Chunhua stopping the battle between Mitsunari and Ieyasu and defeating Kiyomori for brainwashing them. Mitsunari and Ieyasu comment that they hope that they never end up fighting each other while Kiyomasa, Mitsunari, and Masanori agree with Nene that fighting theirs friends is foolish. Sadly, it's a because Mitsunari and Ieyasu are fated to be enemies and Kiyomasa and Masanori joins the latter, forcing them to fight their former friend while Nene is powerless to stop it.
The worst part? This mission took place in Sekigahara.: You'll grin quite a bit more here on realizing that after duking it out here, Guan Yu, Sun Wukong, Nuwa, Nezha, Susano'o and Daji can form a team to compete in. By Warriors Orochi 4, you can also add up Zeus, Athena, Ares and Odin there.:.
As with most of Koei's products via 'hit-or-miss', the series is rather awkward in its script for treating characters as they were from separate worlds when technically, they're all mainly from different timelines. This gets even more blatant when characters introduced in the third installment come from universes that are literally future-versions of their original land (e.g. Ayane, Ryuu and Kasumi coming from a future version of Japan). On that note, Ayane even knows who Yoshitsune is via him being a historical figure, and that part is never touched upon again. In Wei's final stage in the first game, the only actual Wei officers are Cao Cao and Cao Pi. The other allied officers are Mitsunari and Samurai generics. This makes Cao Pi's line 'Show them the might of Wei!'
Unintentionally laughable. The opening cutscene of WO4 has Zeus reviewing the events that transpired from the previous games which includes the Sun family defeating Orochi from WO1. It's very weird that the WO1 cutscene shows Sun Quan's DW5 version who is bearded and yet, WO4 uses DW8 design's of Sun Quan who is clean shaven. The fact that generic Greek and Norse officers are named after famous heroes and minor gods such as Kratos and Forseti can either make any fan of mythology cringe or laugh on its ridiculousness. The God of War protagonist has become more known than the actual minor God named Kratos in the Greek myth, so people would've thought of the GOW character more than the deity when someone said 'Kratos' in context of Greek mythology.
When Bao Sanniang explains to the coalition that Zhao Yun and the younger Shu officers are forced to serve the Olympians because, Liu Bei is shocked on this revelation. This is the first time outside in-game quotes where Liu Bei shows. After Liu Shan is rescued which causes Zhao Yun and the Shu officers to defect from the Olympians at the end of chapter 3, Liu Bei welcomes back Zhao Yun and his swore brothers' sons (Guan Suo and Xing and Zhang Bao) to the coalition. It's as if Liu Bei regressed back to being an uncaring father again.:.
The games themselves are meant for those who are familiar with Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. The first game is, at least, tame for casual players but the fourth game levels it up since it expects the players not only to be familiar to the characters but also to the plot from the three previous games. The main reason the eight characters got deified in the fourth game because they're very popular among the fanbase. The most blatant examples would be Cao Pi, Guan Yinping, Mitsunari, and Naotora.: In the fourth game, players enjoy the gameplay and the gimmicks but they find the main storyline to be very linear and less engaging, particularly with the last chapters due to Zeus' flimsy excuse of rebuilding the world despite that it's for good intention and Odin's generic motive of wanting total annihilation.
Likewise, many characters, such as those who played big roles in the previous games, are pushed aside near the closing chapters which is the reason several players prefer the side missions where these characters have their moments to shine.: While the Wii U version is by no means bad, it does have some draw-distance issues that make soldiers seem to pop up right out of nowhere. Similar problems exist in the Vita version of Ultimate, and are much less excusable given that similar issues are not present in the more-advanced port of Dynasty Warriors 8 XL.: It's not surprising that many players find Orochi to be very badass and some considered him as some sort of an who is trying to test humanity's potential to beat him and kill him so he can be put to rest.
Ultimate adds his backstory which many players see him as a. It even helps that his faction has a set of colorful characters including his generic playable mooks.:. An automatic game over occurs if the character being played as dies. What's grating about this is that the other two should be still available.
The first two games forced your co-op partner to use the same team as you. Thankfully changed in Z (albeit ) and 3. The Musou Battlefields in 3, due to them being pretty limited to what you can create, such as having a limit to the edits you can do, unable to type in your own dialogue for units, and overall being very limiting with the ways you can customize each battle. Thankfully Ultimate fixed practically all these issues, making the mode much better. The relationship mechanic in 3 can be this, simply because specific characters are needed to reach a specific relationship level to unlock some extra levels. It doesn't help that these characters often include.
Thankfully, the teahouse makes this much easier to do (especially when you reach chapter 4). In 4, the presence of clones in the battlefield breaks the immersion when you're playing most especially when you thought the character that you have selected to play is important in the mission because they're the ones leading this mission except you ran into their clone in the battlefield instead of their generic replacements. So imagine you're playing as Lu Xun because you're doing his mission except that there's his clone running around instead of his generic son.
Of course, there's the recommended characters guide which would prevent you from encountering that but most players choose to ignore it and rather play their favorite characters instead. It gets worse that regardless which character you played, there's no special conversation initiated whenever you encountered other characters in the battlefield as if the player characters are merely spectators. It's only in some side missions where the player characters get to talk for a bit. Doing the Unity Magic in 4 is cool but if you're doing it in a middle of a conversation, you're going to miss out because the dialogue box doesn't appear which is a huge hassle for players who don't understand Japanese as. You really have to go to the history log to check what's going on. Completing the battle objectives in 4 which is just a bonus if you want crystals for camp upgrades, growth and skill points for leveling up your character is a huge hassle most especially with the time limit objectives that require you to defeat or reach a certain character or defeat a number of officers or monsters within minutes. It's even more stressful if you're rushing to beat the time limit because some of the events are timely scripted and some characters tend to talk very long.
Unless you're equipped with the right weapon or weapon elements or have a character equipped with, you're going to fail those objectives.: As time passed and both Dynasty and Samurai added more characters, the games are slightly dampened in quality since it will not allow you to play as other historical officers who debuted afterwards. Thankfully this would be averted in Warriors Orochi 4, but as long as Koei kept introducing new characters in the original Dynasty or Samurai Warriors games, it seemed inevitable to happen again in the future.: Warriors Orochi 3 is probably the best Koei 'Warriors' game ever made, highly rated even by reviewers who usually say they hate the repetitiveness of the franchise. For the Orochi sub-franchise especially this is significant because WO2 got only middling scores at best.
A variety of little reasons; inclusion of many characters beyond just Samurai/Dynasty Warriors (like Ryu Hayabusa and Joan of Arc.), better combat variety between characters in general in form of giving different charge attacks to everyone so that the only shared move between characters that use the same weapon is their basic combo, the hundreds of unique conversations in the camp between your characters, and most likely the mission progression. Instead of having a few story modes for different sides, everyone the player controls is on one side and you add more and more guys to your collection with each stage you conquer, leading to an addictive mentality.:. Removing Guest characters in Warriors Orochi 4.
Some are okay because it will let KOEI focus on the Dynasty and Samurai Warrior characters and the mystics while the guest characters fit into. Some are aghast that they removed what made WO3 great, and removing characters have always been a reviled action which caused DW6 to be looked down upon and since was considered by many as not-so-stellar, they fear that they won't see the guest characters anymore. Subverted with the announcement of Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate has Ryu Hayabusa, Achilles and Joan of Arc returning. Some fans are not pleased with the eight characters chosen to have Deification forms for WO4 as it tends to rely on. The most aggravating example would be Guan Yinping and Ii Naotora who are chosen because.
And despite that these eight characters represent their faction, note Zhao Yun and Guan Yinping (Shu), Cao Pi (Wei), Lu Bu (Others), Naotora (Tokugawa), Nobunaga (Oda), Mitsunari (Toyotomi), Yukimura (Sanada) Shu has two characters who have Deification forms which infuriated many Wu and Jin fans, particularly with the former who felt that their favorite faction is being sidelined again by Koei, as well as those who felt other specific characters would've had a better chance note e.g. Guan Yu being actually worshiped as a god in real life, Sun Wukong achieving Buddhahood at the end of Journey to the West, etc. It gets worse that mentioned that Lu Xun was supposed to have a Deification form but didn't make it in the final cut because he's a strategist, not.
However, many Wu fans find that excuse hypocritical because Mitsunari, who is also a strategist, gets a Deification form and the opening cutscene of the game shows the bracelet landing near Lu Xun's location.: While Ultimate has a roster of nearly 150 playable characters, the trophy for earning everyone's Mystic Weapon is not this! The title instead goes to the 'Complete every request in Gauntlet Mode.' There are 80 requests and they all boil down to 'Kill X number of generics, officers, famous officer, otherworld invaders, troop types, or a particular officer.'
The only problem is only 5 requests can be accepted at a time and very few can be stacked together, thus adding a huge degree of. It's very telling when trophy progress tracking sites showcase this one as having a lower completion percentage than the one for collecting all the Mystic Weapons note It also helps that Mystic Weapons can be more-easily obtained within some of the DLC stages for Gauntlet Mode too.: Many Musous can count as this, namely ones that do a lot of damage with one strike, since on higher difficulties they can very much you, and Musous that juggle you since the opponent has invincibility frames during this and can't be hurt by assists. While the Ultimate expansion alleviates this with midair R1 Type Actions that can be used just like midair Musou Attacks, it still depends on which character's Type Action you're executing, and what kind of attack you're getting hit by in the first place.
Special mention goes to Himiko's musou; as a CPU it somehow does RIDICULOUS damage with DPS up one's ass in an instant (since it stunlocks you like crazy since it forces you to crumple and/or has little airborne-hit knockback). If you're caught in it despite the rest of her awkward moveset, prepare to just give up.: Susano'o in 3. Unless if your prepared you will probably get wrecked by his high damaging attacks and Musou which is nearly always a by that point in the game.
